Home Depot and Lowe’s have long been known to offer a 10% military discount to military members, veterans, and retirees on the main military holidays such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. Well, good news – both companies now offer these military discounts every day of the week! Additionally, you may be able to find discounts online at Lowes.com and savings at HomeDepot.com . Military Discount Eligibility: Please read the discount information for each store closely. These discounts may or may not be available to all military veterans on a daily basis. In general, both Home Depot and Lowe’s offer a 10% discount to all currently serving military members with proper military ID, retired military members with ID, and veterans with a service-connected disability rating and VA health care ID card with a service-connected designation. Some veterans have reported being able to receive a discount with a drivers license featuring a veterans designation (this is not always accepted at all locations). In fact, you can find even more savings with special Memorial Day and Veterans Day discounts at retailers and restaurants nationwide.
Does Home Depot offer the military discount online? Unfortunately, The Home Depot no longer offers the military discount online.
However, a few people have told me they have made online purchases for in-store pickup, and were able to obtain the discount when they paid at the store. This may not work if you buy online, then pick up in the store, unless you are willing to ask for a price adjustment.
HomeDepot.com Coupon Codes
The Home Depot offers a variety of sales, some of which may vary by location. So it’s a good idea to check the local advertisements, fliers, and online store for up to date information.
Lowe’s Military Discount
Like Home Depot, Lowe’s offers veterans a 10% discount through its MyLowe’s program. You can learn more about the promotional program on the Lowe’s website.
Lowe’s 10% Military Discount Policy
Lowe’s now offers a 10% military discount to all active duty military members, members of the Guard and Reserve, retired military members and their immediate family members.
The 10% Lowe’s discount also applies to veterans who served honorably, as well as and their families.
Here is the specific discount information:
To receive the Everyday 10% Military Discount, you must:
Be currently serving in or a veteran* of the US armed forces or be the immediate family member (Spouses and/or dependent children up to 18 years old). Once the service member signs up for the discount program on Lowes.com, it will be linked to a MyLowe’s card that may also be used by immediate family.
Enroll in the program online. Lowe’s uses a trusted third party to verify eligibility status for online enrollment and may require additional documentation or proof of eligibility.
*Veteran includes all individuals who are retired from the US armed forces or who have been discharged (e.g., honorable, under honorable condition, general). Individuals dishonorably discharged or for bad conduct are not eligible to receive a military discount.
How to Sign Up for the MyLowe’s Program
Military members and veterans will need to sign up for the MyLowe’s program in order to receive the military discount. Once you sign up for the MyLowe’s program, you can receive the military discount on purchases made in the store.
You will need to provide Lowe’s with your name, phone number, and zip code to join the MyLowe’s program. You will also need to verify your military service with a third-party company that verifies military service through a contract with the DoD (your information is secure).
Once you join the MyLowe’s program, you can link your MyLowe’s account with your phone number, or choose to carry a physical card (it is not a credit card, it’s simply a membership card). I simply link my MyLowe’s account to my phone number and provide my number when I check out.
A new Lowe’s policy requires the clerks and cashiers to verify your identity by requesting to see your military ID card.
You can also link your spouse to your MyLowe’s account and he or she can receive the discount. They too, may be required to show ID to prove they are on your account (this is a requirement to prevent fraud).
What Can You Use the Lowe’s Military Discount For?
Lowe’s website states the following:
The 10% Military Discount can be used every day on eligible purchases in store. There are some exclusions.

- It can’t be applied to any gift cards, previous purchases, online purchases, services (including, but not limited to, product installations, assembly, shipping and Extended Protection Plans), any taxes or fees.
- Offer isn’t redeemable for cash, is nontransferable, can’t be combined with manager discretion price adjustments. Additional exclusions may apply. See store for details.
The discount applies to in-stock and special-order purchases up to $5,000, but it excludes sales via Lowes.com
Note the last line: The Lowe’s military discount policy no longer applies to online purchases at Lowes.com.
Lowe’s Does Offer Great Online Deals – Even without the Discount
Keep in mind you may still be able to find discounts at the Lowe’s.com website. Just follow the link or click on the banner below to access these deals. The best part is that you can view inventory and complete your order online, then visit the store and pick up the item. That way you don’t waste a trip only to find out they didn’t have your item in stock.
Also, I’m not sure if this is possible, but it might be worth seeing if you can buy an item online with in-store pickup, then try to get the discount at the store when you pick it up.
Home Depot & Lowe’s Military Discount FAQ’s
There can be some confusion on these military discounts at Home Depot and Lowe’s. So we put together a few answers to the most common questions and concerns we hear from our readers.
Who is eligible for the military discount?
The offers as explained above do not necessarily include all veterans, 100% of the time. Both The Home Depot and the Lowe’s military discount offers include active duty, Guard/Reserves, retirees, and veterans with a service connected-disability rating (many stores require the veteran to show proof of a service-connected rating, which will appear on the VA health care ID card).
The Lowe’s military discount is open to anyone who has served honorably.
Some veterans have been able to receive the discount with an alternate form of ID or proof of service, such as a DD 214, or a veterans designation on their drivers license. These alternate forms of ID aren’t officially accepted, so this may be at the discretion of the clerk or the store manager.
How to prove military service:
Are there exceptions to the discount?
Yes. There are certain exceptions and exclusions to the discounts. Some items cannot be discounted due to manufacturer limitations, because they are already on clearance or have other discounts applied, or because they are commodities and the pricing doesn’t allow for discounting.
This is common for items such as lumber and drywall, which have very small profit margins. There also may be a total dollar limit for discounts.
For example, several commenters have stated the store manager informed them there was a dollar limit for the discount ranging from $50 to $500, depending on the item, store, or location.
Some discounts can’t be combined, such as a military discount and a contractor’s discount. Additionally, neither The Home Depot or Lowe’s offer the 10% discount for online purchases. Please verify before making your purchase.
What if you don’t receive a discount?
Some military members and veterans have reported not being able to receive a 10% discount when shopping at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Please check with all the above information and verify the discount applies.
You can ask the store manager to see a copy of their military discount policy and ask if there are exclusions for the items you are purchasing.
It’s also possible you don’t have the form of ID they accept. Home Depot and Lowe’s both have policies in place regarding which forms of ID are accepted. Clerks can get in trouble or lose their job for accepting the incorrect form of ID, so please don’t put them in an awkward position.
Discounts may be hit or miss. At the end of the day, we should appreciate the fact that these companies are making an effort to support our community. If the discount isn’t applied, then please thank them anyway and show these companies our gratitude and appreciation for supporting our community.
If Home Depot or Lowe’s doesn’t honor the military discount, then compare prices with other stores, including playing Home Depot and Lowe’s against each other (they almost always honor coupons and offers from the other store).
There are plenty of home improvement coupons available from various stores. The key is to look at all of your options to ensure you’re getting the best deals on the products you need.]]>
