Engineering Co-op Program

An Engineer s Connection to Expanded Experience

The engineering co-op at Case Western Reserve University provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on, paid experience relevant to their course of study. Co-op also gives employers a head start on meeting and training potential future hires and benefitting from CWRU students technical and creative contributions.

Co-op is a full-time, two-semester-long, paid work experience. While co-ops typically require a student to remain in school for a fifth year, the opportunity accelerates and inspires intellectual, personal, and professional development through meaningful work in a position relevant to your field of study which prepares you to be a top-tier candidate in your job search.

Co-op is voluntary. You may work in one or two co-ops, beginning in your third year of study. Co-op is a formalized academic program and is considered an extension of the classroom that adds a unique dimension to your comprehensive education. Co-op is non-credit, however, proper registration for co-op maintains your full-time student status.

We encourage you to begin preparing for your co-op during your first year at CWRU by visiting the co-op office, talking to your academic advisor, utilizing resources in the university s Career Center, getting involved in engineering groups or projects, attending career fairs and networking events, and finding a summer job.

During the semester prior to your co-op, you will receive guidance and coaching from the Engineering Co-op Program to better prepare you for a successful and enriching co-op experience. Employers interested in setting up a co-op are encouraged to plan early and contact the Division of Engineering Leadership and Professional Practice office to get started.
