An out-of-control coward left a pensioner battered and bruised in an unprovoked street attack.

The violent ned targeted his 67-year-old victim as he walked his dog along Whitesbridge Avenue in Paisley on Wednesday night.

Minutes earlier the yob had stolen four cans of booze from a nearby petrol station while ranting at staff.

The first outburst took place at a Shell garage, in Main Road, Ferguslie, shortly before 10pm when the lout threatened to stab workers before walking out with the stolen beers.

He then headed into Ferguslie Park where he carried out the senseless attack on the OAP dog walker.

It’s understood he approached the older man and punched him repeatedly without warning, before fleeing the scene.

However, police who had been alerted to the first incident were quick to catch up with the yob and detain him.

Fortunately, the shaken victim managed to escape the beating without any serious injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The unprovoked street attack followed a similar assault in Paisley town centre the previous night, when three teenage girls laid into a 29-year-old woman.

A Police Scotland spokesman last night said a 26-year-old man was expected to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with assault charges.

Later on Wednesday night, Paisley cops had to deal with a racist woman who attacked a paramedic who had been called to treat her.

The assault took place at an address in Renfrew Road in the town at around 11.15pm.

When police were called and helped transfer the woman to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, she also lashed out at them before hurling racial abuse at an Asian officer.

A Police Scotland spokesman revealed that a 49-year-old woman has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with assault, breach of the peace and race hate charges.
